How to Use RealMojis in BeReal

One of the most unique features of popular social media app BeReal is its RealMojis, a term the platform coined for its reactions feature on posts. Instead of a typical like, dislike, or celebrate reaction that platforms like Instagram and Facebook have, you can “like” or otherwise react to a post with RealMojis.

So, how do they work? Here's how to use RealMojis on BeReal.

What Are RealMojis?

RealMojis are BeReal’s take on reactions to posts on the platform. The word itself is a play on the term emoji. For example, on Instagram, you leave a heart to “like” a post. On BeReal, you leave a RealMoji.

RealMojis are small images you take of yourself with your reaction to the post. There are two types of RealMojis: saved and instant. Saved RealMojis are little photos you take on BeReal following their prompts, like doing a thumbs up. Then, you can use that image to like posts.

An instant RealMoji is a photo of you taken in the moment you are reacting to the post, and it is not saved. This means you cannot use that image again later on another post.

You can see other people’s RealMojis across the bottom of any BeReal post. If you don’t see any, there haven’t been any RealMojis left on that post yet. You could be the first!

How to Use and Create RealMojis

To leave a RealMoji on a friend’s post, tap the smiley face icon in the bottom-right corner of a BeReal post you want to leave a RealMoji on. Then, choose one of two options.

The first option allows you to choose an emoji icon on the row that appears, then capture an image of yourself imitating that emoji to use as your RealMoji. This image will save as that RealMoji. You can now use your new RealMoji to react to any BeReal post by just tapping it.

Option two is the Instant RealMoji. After tapping the smiley face icon on a BeReal post, tap the lightning bolt icon. This will take an instant photo of you at that moment to use as a RealMoji on that BeReal post. Instant RealMojis will not save for re-use.

How Do You Remove a RealMoji From a BeReal?

Maybe you accidentally left a RealMoji on a friend’s post or just want to delete it. Just tap your RealMoji icon on their post, tap it again on the new screen that pops up, tap the three dots icon, then tap Delete RealMoji.

To delete a saved RealMoji entirely before using it on a post, tap the smiley face icon on a user’s post, hold down on the RealMoji you want to delete, then tap the X icon on the image.

Deleting a BeReal post is a different set of steps from deleting a RealMoji. Deleting your BeReal will also delete any RealMojis that anyone may have left on it.

How Do I See RealMojis on My BeReal Posts?

You will get a notification if a friend leaves a RealMoji on your BeReal post. Then, just tap your post from the home feed, and you will see them below. You can tap them to make them larger.

Here, you will also see comments that any friends make on your BeReal. You cannot see RealMojis or comments left on old BeReals in your memories.
